High Performance Building Conference 2016
May 2, 2016ASHRAE’s Central Florida Chapter and UCF hosted a High Performance Building Conference on June 8th, 2016 at the Student Union.
This conference provided a series of programs and panel discussions to those in the heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and ventilation (HVAC&R) industry.
Above all, this forum provided these professionals, faculty, staff, and students a platform to; share best practices, present case studies, discuss strategies to overcome challenges within local market labor shortages, future trends, and lesson’s learned in designing, constructing and operating high performance buildings.
Generally speaking, high performance buildings integrate and optimize energy efficiency, water reduction, durability, life-cycle performance, and occupant productivity. UCF currently has (18) LEED Certified high-performance buildings, comprising of 17% of the total heated and cooled space on the main campus, with emphasis on energy efficiency, conservation of precious water resources, site sustainability and open space and indoor air quality.
The department of Utilities and Energy Services participated in the event at an open panel forum to discuss commissioning of high performance buildings from the operations and owner’s perspective.
By and large, ASHRAE co-hosted this conference with UCF to further enhance the connections between students, alumni, faculty, university leadership and the local HVAC&R industry’s need: from workforce development, curriculum, internships and putting into practice what we preach by serving humanity and promoting a sustainable world.
